Turó de la Peira Sports Center: Mapei 2019 award for sustainable architecture
The project, with the participation of GARCIA FAURA, has won the first prize of these awards that recognize the contribution of constructive projects to the sustainable architecture model. According to the jury, the building “simplifies the complexity of sustainability through a project in which each element contributes to solving each and every one of the difficulties with basic strategies such as natural lighting, which generates high quality spaces“.
Precisely, the work of GARCIA FAURA in this project consisted of the development, manufacture and installation of the facade elements, essential to provide the building with this natural lighting that the jury shows.
The project is the work of architects Ana Noguera and Javier Fernández. It stands out for its contribution to the improvement of the space where it stands, turning into an opportunity for the project the adverse aspects of the existing reality and transforming the building into a unique landscape object.
The sports equipment, located in the Turó de la Peira neighborhood of Barcelona, was designed following full sustainability criteria. The structure of the building is made of wood to favor its lightness and the adequacy of the environment of the indoor pool. From its exterior stands out the vertical garden, which serves as sun protection and element of biodiversity promotion.
