GARCIA FAURA will improve the energy efficiency of the former Novartis pharmaceutical headquarters in Barcelona

At the end of 2022, the pharmaceutical multinational Novartis sold the Spanish headquarters building, on Gran Vía de las Corts Catalanas in Barcelona (in the heart of the Eixample district), a property that it had occupied since the 1970s and that is now being transformed in an office complex.

The former headquarters of the pharmaceutical company Novartis is being completely renovated, both the façade and the interior, to convert it into a modern and sustainable workspace of around 13,000 square meters. There will be an auditorium, catering establishments, multipurpose meeting rooms and an open space with views of the city of Barcelona.

Regarding the façade, it is currently made up of steel panels and enclosures without thermal bridge breakage. The intervention of GARCIA FAURA will reduce the incidence of cold and heat, as well as the high noise that the property registered inside.

The Technical Office and the GARCIA FAURA workshop, in collaboration with various manufacturing companies, have developed a set of technical solutions that maintain one of the main aesthetic characteristics of the façade: the geometry of the glass with curved corners.

The current crystals are replaced by higher technical features. In addition, a pine wood frame is added to generate the space necessary for the new dimension of glass. The space is lined with rock wool and closed with water-repellent DM panels, lined with melamine and a machined wooden bead, following the geometry of the glass.

In total, GARCIA FAURA intervenes in the façade of the Novartis building with 551 units of closures, including fixed ones (478 units) and balcony doors (72 units).
