Façades And Enclosures By GARCIA FAURA For The Catalonia Proton Therapy Centre

Façades and enclosures by GARCIA FAURA for the Catalonia Proton Therapy Centre

The company is manufacturing and installing 170 units of high-performance aluminium joinery and 200 square metres of curtain walls for the facilities currently under construction at the Pere Virgili Health Park in Barcelona.

GARCIA FAURA is responsible for constructing the curtain wall façade and external joinery for the future Catalonia Proton Therapy Centre, which is under construction at the Pere Virgili Health Park site in Barcelona and will be the first of its kind in Catalonia.

The facility will have a floor area of 8,000 square metres, comprising preparation and support areas, teaching and inpatient facilities, as well as two proton beam treatment rooms.

The centre’s façade will consist of a prefabricated system made from architectural concrete panels, into which GARCIA FAURA joinery and slats providing both sun protection and aesthetic appeal will be fitted.

The window frames feature two openings, one of which is motorised, interconnected to enable centralised ventilation of the building. A total of 172 units will be installed, with glass balustrades integrated into the same profile system.

The company is also responsible for the curtain wall sections in the basement, featuring a removable opaque glass roof on the ground floor that will provide access to the area housing the proton machines.

The works, funded by the Catalan Health Service and the Amancio Ortega Foundation, are expected to be completed next year, so that the Catalonia Proton Therapy Centre can begin operations in the first half of 2028.
