SJD Pediatric Cancer Center opens in Barcelona
The Sant Joan de Déu Pediatric Cancer Center is now a reality. This is the first monographic pediatric oncology center in Spain and the second in Europe, for which GARCIA FAURA has manufactured and installed the facades, enclosures and other elements of exterior architecture.
The SJD Pediatric Cancer Center consists of a 14,000 square meter building connected to the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital by means of a raised covered gallery. The building has five floors with spaces for medical care and research.
The center also has advanced services for the treatment of childhood cancer, in addition to welcoming common spaces, with lots of light and spaciousness to promote the well-being of patients and their families.
For this project, GARCIA FAURA has developed a 350 square meter curtain wall, in addition to 2,000 square meters of innovative solar protection. Also 1,800 square meters of exterior aluminum and glass carpentry with thermal breaks and high technical performance, as well as other exterior architecture works.
These solutions aim to offer maximum acoustic and thermal comfort to the users of the equipment and also to the more than 150 workers who carry out their professional work.
The construction of the new health facility has been largely financed with a campaign that, since 2017, has raised 37 million euros. This has made a center a reality that consolidates a model of research, assistance and care in pediatric oncology that is unique in Europe.
