GARCIA FAURA Completes The Intervention In The Renovation Of The Estel Building

GARCIA FAURA completes the intervention in the renovation of the Estel building

After a period of abandonment of more than a decade, the Estel building in Barcelona has been reborn as a modern office complex, with the outstanding participation of GARCIA FAURA, who has already completed his intervention in the building.

Located in Barcelona’s Eixample, the building was built in 1975 and was the headquarters of Telefónica until 2011. Now, thanks to the project by despacho Blanch + Cuenca Arquitectura, the more than 40,000 square meters of surface area have been transformed into a state-of-the-art office center with auditoriums and halls.

The building also incorporates commercial and restaurant premises on the ground floor, as well as about 8,000 square meters of terraces and garden areas. One of the strong points of the new complex is its energy efficiency: 35% of consumption will come from renewable sources thanks to the installation of photovoltaic panels.

The project has been designed to achieve the highest certifications in sustainability and well-being: LEED Platinum, WELL Platinum, SmartScore Platinum, WidesCore Platinum and Zero Net Carbon. In this sense, the facades and enclosures developed and installed by GARCIA FAURA have been a key piece.

The company has carried out the construction and placement of 6,100 square meters of curtain wall with the SG system and a double skin with special extruded aluminum slats, 3,272 additional square meters of curtain wall with tiles, and a skylight of 170 square meters in the interior patio.

The main facade has been one of the most outstanding interventions, with a curtain wall in the form of scales that reproduces the volume of the building. This exclusive exterior skin, developed by the Technical Office of GARCIA FAURA, uses large vertical profiles and horizontal blades designed specifically for the project.

The anchors and support structures, made of iron, ensure the necessary resistance while maintaining a clean and simple aesthetic. In addition, the lower part of the facade incorporates a curved design that, despite its technical complexity, brings a unique personality to the architectural ensemble.

With the works already completed, the Estel building is consolidated as a new benchmark for sustainable, functional and aesthetic architecture in the center of Barcelona.
